Video FAQ'a

1. Please explain the process of creating a film with Gray Media.

First, we discuss what type of video you would like – is this a Birthday Celebration, or Business Promotional piece? Who is your audience? What type of style are you looking for? -Nostalgic & celebratory, or quirky & lampooning? We then come up with a Production Schedule for interviews, collection of materials you want included in your film (music selections, photos, documents, etc.). Once all the footage is filmed & materials collected, the editing process ranges from 1-3 weeks. Towards the end of the editing stage, we will show you a “rough cut” of your video to get your feedback. Your final DVD will include a customized cover & case.

2. How long does it take?

Each project is unique. Ideally, we like to allow 2-4 weeks for each project, but we are capable of much faster turn-arounds depending on your needs.

3. Will Gray Media travel for my project?

Yes! Gray Media works with people all around the New York Tri-State area and beyond. We are happy to come to you, wherever you are. We approach travel expenses in the following way: for shorter trips by car or train, we will build travel cost into our estimate; for longer distances, travel costs will be itemized & approved by you before we book anything.

4. What types of tapes and photos can be submitted for the DVD?

All video tapes, films, photos, slides and documents can be submitted for inclusion in your video. Gray Media has the capability to convert photos, documents, VHS, Mini-DV and DVD in our editing suite. Other video and film formats (8mm videotape, Hi-8, digital 8, BetaMax, BetacamSP, DVCPro, 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm movie film) can be sent to a quality transfer facility.

5. Do I get my originals back?

Yes, we are keenly aware of their personal value, and all will be returned in original condition, as per your contract.

6. Can I get a VHS Tape?

Yes, however we strongly recommend DVD.

7. Why DVD?

Videotapes begin to deteriorate rapidly after 10 years while DVDs last a lifetime. Menus available on DVDs allow you to navigate quickly to desired scenes. No more fast-forwarding through hours of tape. Also, the DVD format allows for sharper images and better sound quality.

8. What are your prices?

Since all of our projects are customized, after a brief consultation we will be able to calculate the price of your project. Different types of projects range in price significantly, depending on Production & Editing time, labor and travel.
